About Society

     The Plant Protection Society of Serbia was established in 1954. Related activities of the Society have been demonstrated on the territory of the Republic Serbia but has also supported the cooperation with the experts and institutions on the whole territory of former Yugoslavia. The Society has initiated the establishing of the societies or sections in other Republics and as a result in 1977 the Yugoslav Plant Protection Society Association was formed. The Plant Protection Society of Serbia has had the competence on the territory of Serbia and expanded activities has performed through the Association. After falling apart of Yugoslavia, the Plant Protection Society of Serbia was reactivated and together with the Plant Protection Society of Vojvodina and the Section for Plant Protection of Kosovo in 1991 was constituted as a unique scientific - professional society for the whole Republic. Since then and till nowadays, the Plant Protection Society of Serbia, in cooperation with the Section for Plant Protection of Montenegro, formed in 1990's, organize Yugoslav scientific and professional meetings dealing with the plant protection. Furthermore, because of the absence of the Yugoslav Plant Protection Society, this Society has delegated the permanent representative for Yugoslavia in the Council of MOBB (International Organization for Biological Control of Noxious Animals and Pests - East Palearctic Section).
     The members of the Society are graduated students, specialists, postgraduate students, M.A.degree and Dr of science, as well as professionals involved in the field of plant protection and foodstuff fields. In addition to the scientists and professionals from Serbia, the members of the Society are scientists and professionals from Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina including Republic Srpska, Croatia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Bulgaria, USA, France, Italy, Germany and Greece depending on their wishes, who usually take part in our meetings. Nowadays, the Plant Protection Society of Serbia corresponds with more than 3000 members. Besides individual membership, the Society has members of honor and supporting members (the organizations and individuals) for the organizing of meetings or publications printing. The supporting members for the organizing of meetings or printing of publications mainly are firms dealing with plant protection i.e. firms belonging to national chemical industry, representatives of foreign firms, trade firms and, rarely, institutes and faculties. Republic Ministry for Science, mainly symbolic, gives a certain sum of money for the organization of meetings and printing the scientific papers from the meetings.
     The Society, till now, has 11 compartments which are organized according to the territorial (regional) Principle.
     The bodies of the Society are The Main Committee, as an operating body; the Control Board; the Ethic Board and permanent commissions:  Editorial Commission, Awarding Commission, Commission for the standardization of terminology in the field of plant protection. The bodies of the Society, the same as the President of the Society, are chosen for a mandate period of 4 years with the possibility of being chosen in 2 mandate periods. The President of the Plant Protection Society of Serbia, for the period of time 2008-2011 period of time is Dr Bojan Stojnić, assistent professor on the Faculty of Agriculture - Department for Enthomology of the Belgrade University.
     The Society has a Secretariat and a Secretary of the Society as a full-time staff and several part time-stuff (bookmaker, computer and other service) and certain number of collaborators engaged during the preparing and realization of meetings. The Secretary of the Society is Mrs. Ivanka Kraus.
     The main activities of the Society are organizing scientific and professional meetings, lectures and seminars in the scope of education and the exchange of knowledge and practice, as far as informing of members on current issues and solutions in the field of protection of cultivated plants and forestry.
     Every year, the Society is organizing national scientific meetings  with participants from abroad. In 1998 year in collaboration with MOBB, the Society has been organized the International Symposium on Integrated Protection of Field Crops in Vrnjacka Banja. In 2002 year, in collaboration with IWGO  (International Working Group of Ostrinia and other maize pests), the Society was  organizer of 9th IWGO Diabrotica Subgroup Meeting and 8th EPPO ad hoc Panel in Belgrade. In 2008. the Society delegated prof.dr Milka Glavendekić for membership in MOBB association instead dr Franja Bača and in 2009. has take on a membership in MOBB association (paying unpaid debt instead of our government.
     In the scope of selebrating a 55 aniversary of Plant Protection Society of Serbia, in cooperation with MOBB organization the VI Congress of Plant Protection with Symposium about Biological Control of Invasive Organzms is organised on Zlatibor (November, 23-27, 2009).
     In addition, the Society is publisher of scientific, professional or similar publications dealing with plant protection. The Plant Protection Society of Serbia is the owner of one professional paper ("Biljni lekar"- "Plant Physician") and the oner and co-publisher of two leading scientific papers "Pesticidi & Fitomedicina" - "Pesticides & Phytomedicine" and ("Zastita bilja" - "Plant Protection").
